Compact sedans like the Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte are designed to offer a fun and efficient drive with lots of useful features. So, which one is right for you?

To help drivers in Ithaca, Vestal, and Sayre NY decide, Maguire Hyundai put them up against each other in this 2020 Hyundai Elantra vs. Kia Forte comparison.

Performance Specs

The Hyundai Elantra and Kia Forte each offer a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Plus, both sedans offer a dual-clutch transmission or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). With the IVT, they can achieve an EPA-estimated 31 city/41 highway MPG.[i]

For more power under the hood, both models also offer a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can get up to 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.

However, the Elantra ECO trim offers an additional powertrain. It focuses on fuel economy with a 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that provides an EPA-estimated 33 city/41 highway MPG.i The Forte only offers two powertrains and isn't as efficient when you're driving downtown.

Infotainment System

Both the 2020 Elantra and 2020 Forte can keep you connected throughout your drives. Each one has a Bluetooth®-compatible infotainment system that lets you safely make hands-free calls and stream music, podcasts, and audiobooks from your smartphone. You can also control smartphone apps through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

For more variety in your playlists, you can add SiriusXM® Satellite Radio to both vehicles. Plus, you can enjoy excellent sound quality with HD Radio™ and an available 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer.

While each sedan offers a touchscreen for your infotainment system, the Elantra offers a more stylish display. It blends in seamlessly into the center of the dashboard. On the flip side, the Kia Forte places its screen on top of the dashboard. This causes it to stand out and might even obscure your visibility.

The more appealing design of the Hyundai Elantra continues onto the exterior of the car. It has a streamlined body with accent lines down the sides and a subtle spoiler on the back of the trunk. Up front, you'll find a large diamond-shaped grille with chrome lines running horizontally across it. To the sides, it's bordered by a pair of sleek diagonal headlights and sharp side air vents.

The Kia Forte has similar dimensions but doesn't look quite as sharp. The front features a small mesh grill with the brand logo hovering above it. A separate mesh black air intake vent sits just beneath the grill. By separating the two front features, it makes them look smaller and not as stylish.
