Sporty compact sedans like the Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic are fun to drive and loaded with great features. So, which one has what you're looking for in your next car?

Maguire Hyundai can help drivers in Ithaca, Vestal, and Sayre decide with this 2020 Hyundai Elantra vs. Honda Civic comparison.

The Hyundai Elantra offers a lineup of engines that can provide a sporty and efficient drive. Its most athletic option is a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that gets up to 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This works with a capable 7-speed EcoShift® Dual Clutch Transmission with SHIFTRONIC®.

Unfortunately, the Honda Civic doesn't offer as many engines or as much power. Its most capable engine is a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder that can only produce up to 174 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. While this powertrain gets paired with a smooth-shifting Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), it doesn't provide you with the same capability.

Safety Features

To help keep you safe, the 2020 Elantra was built with an energy-absorbing steering column plus front and rear crumple zones. It also protects you with seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag and side-curtain airbags that cover every row of seats.

There are also lots of driver-assistance features that can help prevent accidents. Hyundai Smart Sense gives you more awareness during your drive with technology like Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. You'll even have sensors monitoring how you drive. The Driver Attention Warning detects signs of drowsy or distracted driving and reminds you to focus on the road.

The 2020 Civic has side curtain airbags and lots of driver-assistance features, too. Its Honda Sensing® suite comes standard. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a driver's knee airbag or an energy-absorbing steering column. Plus, it doesn't offer anything like Driver Attention Warning.

Infotainment System

The Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic both feature an infotainment system that'll make your drives more fun and convenient. Each sedan's base trim has a Bluetooth®-compatible 5-inch LCD screen, but a 7-inch touchscreen is offered in both vehicles.

With either option, you'll be able to make hands-free phone calls and stream music and podcasts from your smartphone. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are also offered in both systems, so you can control your smartphone apps.

If you're looking for more variety in your music, SiriusXM® Radio is available in both vehicles as well. Plus, you can add HD Radio™ and get superior sound quality.

While each sedan has the same standard screen size and lets you upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen, the Hyundai Elantra offers more. An 8-inch screen is also available to make it even easier to see your menu, maps, and music. Unfortunately, the Honda Civic does not offer an 8-inch screen.
